I realized something this week as I’ve been on my “cutting” journey.  I’ve been experimenting with different meal timings to best keep my muscle while cutting and burn the most fat.

A few days ago, after an upset stomach, I decided to switch my first meal to after my morning weight training session.  I just took a pre-workout powder, BCAAs, and glutamine and hit the gym.

A funny thing happened those two days.  I didn’t have an appetite!

As a matter of fact, I felt bloated for the rest of the day and had to force feed myself – even though my meals are only about 200 cal each!

Not good…

When you’re on and extreme diet like I am, hunger is a good thing.  No hunger is a bad thing.

I was puzzled until I remembered a little fact from a book I read once about the importance of breakfast.  I’m sure you’ve all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  I just forgot to follow my own advice, lol.

Well today, I switched it around and had:

  • 1 cup egg whites
  • ½ cup blueberries
  • 1 scoop iso-protein powder
  • 14g BCAAs, 4g Glutamine
  • 1 Amplified Muscle Igniter dose (pre-workout pills)

Total: 279 cal, 50g protein (excluding BCAA), 15.5g carbs, 3g fat

And tah-dah!  I’ve been hungry as heck all day!  While eating the same amount of food as the two previous days, but this time, my metabolism was instantly boosted.

Appetite was back with a vengeance.  It’s a bittersweet feeling.

So I want to go over four tricks you can use right away to boost your metabolism immediately. 

Trick #1. Eat atleast 30g protein within 30 mins of waking

I just covered this trick and it’s the major catalyst.  You do this and you’ll instantly see a boost in your hunger throughout the day.  Most people have a “carb breakfast” which is totally wrong unless you’re weight training in the morning.  So put the bagel down and cook up some eggs and bacon!

Trick #2. Black coffee with breakfast

Caffeine is a natural thermogenic and boosts your metabolism.  It’s a main ingredient in all the fat burning pills you’ll find out there.  So why not get an extra boost from your coffee.

One cup of coffee will contain between 50-100mg of caffeine which is what you need.  My pre-workout dose is a bit overdose with 400mg, but that’s only for extreme cases.

Stay away from the cream and sugar though because they are both toxic to your body.  Black coffee is an acquired taste, but I wouldn’t have my coffee any other way now.

Trick #3.  Drink Ice Water

The technical definition of a calorie is the amount of energy required to raise 1g of water 1 degree Celsius.  So the colder your water, the more energy your body has to use to warm it up before it can use it. 

Have you ever urinated cold urine?  Didn’t think so.  Throw a few ice cubes in that cup next time.  You can burn 500 calories a week if you drink 64 oz a day!

Trick #4.  Stay Cold

One of the biggest players in your metabolic rate is what’s called your Resting Energy Expenditure or RER.  When you’re cold, your body expends more energy to warm you up and keep your body temperature normal. 

So you shiver, or shake your leg, or walk around, whatever.  You have to move to generate heat which in turn burns energy and gives you a metabolic boost.

Try this out tomorrow and watch your metabolism go up immediately.  You can easily tell by an increase in appetite.
