My Journey Begins – with Detox

7 day detox

My journey to Fitness Atlantic began this week – with a seven day detox.  I have to admit, this is my first time doing a detox and it’s not fun.

Of the hundreds of detoxes out there, what made me choose this one?  How does it work?  And should you use it?

I’ll be answering all these questions in today’s post.

First, on why I chose this particular one.  Well, that’s easy.  I’m following Ben Pakulski’s MI40 program to put on some more size before my show.  I’ll be combining his muscle building program with two cyclical bulking cycles.

I’m hoping to get from 155 up to 165 or so in two months and then cut from there – that’s the plan anyway.

He has a 7 Day Detox primer included in the program that I’m following pretty closely.

Lots of greens (green vegetables), rice, and a few clean proteins.  I think I cleaned myself out yesterday, lol.  I know I just need to get through the first few days and my body will adjust.

How does it work?

Well Ben mainly focuses on alkalizing your body through green vegetables.  That’s one of his staples in all his programs.  Your body becomes very acidic through the breakdown of proteins and carbs because of the metabolic processes used and their by products.

Thus, to keep a healthy environment, you need to counteract that with green vegetables and quick digesting proteins and carbs.

A healthy body is a growing body.  When you optimize your nutrition – needless to say, your body functions on all cylinders.

This isn’t some detox in a box – ugh.  Nor is it very low in calories, but it is pretty tough eating so many “greens shakes”.

I’m doing this to get my body ready for next week when I start dumping a lot of nutrients into it to build muscle.

I need the right hormonal environment as well as the right digestive environment to optimize growth.  No use in eating “healthy food” if none of it gets to your muscles!

Should you try it?

That, as always, depends on your goals.  One of the things that Ben recommends for everyone at whatever stage you’re at, is to begin your morning with .5L to 1L of lemon water, followed by a “greens shake” (I just blend a bunch of vegetables together).

You can add stuff like lemon juice or apple juice to give it a better flavor – I just chug it.

That’ll set your body up for the rest of the day to absorb nutrients more effectively. Just be sure to be getting the right stuff in – No McDonald’s.

Overall, I’d say this detox isn’t as bad as I thought it would be.  I’m not hugging the toilet or drinking juice all day.

In a day or two once my body adjusts, it’ll feel like normal…then the fun begins next week!

Stay Ripped,

Mitch
