How To Overcome Your Weakest Link – Pt.2

3 Tips to Torch Your Belly Fat. Click here to drop your gut!

ways to eat less

People always complain that losing fat is the hardest thing possible.  They’ll give you every excuse under the sun why they can’t do it.

The thing that urks me the most (it’s like nails on a chalkboard) is to hear a guy lean back and say “yeah, I’m working on getting rid of this gut, ha ha ha”.  When I ask him what he’s doing “uhhhh” – nothing!

If I dig a little deeper, the excuses come out.  “I don’t have time”, “I don’t want to eat broccoli all day”, “I’m too tired after work”, or “I’m getting old”.  Like I said, nails on a chalk board.

This thing really isn’t that hard if you dissect it.  Everyone has a weakest link that’s holding them back.  Find your weakest link and compensate for it.  Simple.

In my last post, I talked about overcoming your weakest link by setting a condition.

A condition is something you set up that doesn’t allow you to fail no matter how hard you try.

I know that in my goal of building muscle right now, I have a tendency not to eat enough, so I overcome this by planning ahead.  Cooking all my meals and packaging them up, then carrying around my meal guide in my pocket.

It works for me.  That’s the condition I set up for myself.  I know that if I’m left to my own “intuition”, I won’t eat enough and I won’t grow – not good.

So in today’s post, I want to give you some ideas for conditions you can set up for fat loss, just to narrow it down.

First, let’s look at the five major principles of fat loss in order of importance.

  1. Calorie deficit – you burn more than you take in
  2. Macro Nutrient Ratios – (40% Protein, 40% Carb, 20% Fat)
  3. Pre/Post workout Nutrition
  4. Quality of foods – organic vs. mass produced
  5. Supplements

The most important principle is the first for most people so we’ll concentrate on that and save the other for a later post.

If you master the deficit and you’re anywhere above 12% body fat for guys, you’ll burn fat week in and week out.

If the scale keeps going up for you or hasn’t changed in a while, you’re not in a calorie debt.  To burn off that gut, you have to be in one.

You can do that by eating less or exercising more – there’s really no other way.   Or, you can do both, which is ideal.

Ways To Eat Less

  • -Plan your meals ahead of time and don’t just “eat on the go” if you can avoid it
  • -Eat from smaller plates or bowls
  • -Eat slower
  • -Cut the sauces and condiments
  • -Eat less sugars (soft drinks, etc.)
  • -Eat a small salad before dinner to fill you up sooner
  • -The biggie: finish eating your junk food in your house and don’t buy anymore (don’t throw it away yet, lol)
  • -Bake, boil, broil, or grill your food
  • -If you’re hardcore: drink black coffee (takes some getting used to, but I won’t have my coffee any other way now)

Ways To Exercise More

  • -Plan ahead (again)
  • -Get a partner (preferably someone that’s already going to the gym)
  • -Get a trainer
  • -Enter a contest or bet with friends
  • -Start small – do 5 mins twice a day if you don’t do anything now
  • -More sex with your spouse (guys, you’ll love this tip)

Those are just a few tips for now.  Really sit down and think about what’s holding you back.  Is it work, food, money, kids, spouse, friends, knowledge, etc.  Get creative about how you can set up something in your life that won’t allow you to fail.

Winners set themselves up for success.  Losers just leave it to chance.  Which are you?

Until next time, stay ripped.

Hey Great post! Good point about Processed for vs organic. When people think fatloss they start buying low fat and fat free processed foods not knowing this slows their progress down in a huge way.

    Thanks Mitch!
